Service Technician – Full & Part Time
Overview:
GREENVILLE, SC: As a Service Technician at Champion Coach, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our motorcoach fleet. You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining our diesel engines and associated systems, as well as performing routine maintenance tasks to keep our vehicles in optimal condition. First Shift – 8AM-5PM, Monday-Friday, Rotating Emergency After Hours Road Service (On-Call).
Fleet & Engine Data:
Champion Coach operates a fleet of 40 motorcoaches, which consist of primarily Motor Coach Industries (MCI) J4500. The fleet also includes several Prevost H3-45 and Van Hool CX-45 model coaches. These coaches have been custom ordered for ease of service, reliability and customer satisfaction. The average fleet age is 2016 with 70% of coaches being 2018 or newer.
The fleet consists of the following powertrains* & transmissions:
Cummins – ISM, ISX and X 12 liter series engines.
Detroit Diesel – DD13 engines.
Volvo – D13 series engines.
CAT – C13 On-Highway series engines.
Allison – B500 series transmissions.
*Company provides access to diagnostic software such as Cummins INSITE, Detroit DiagnosticLink and Volvo Tech Tool.
Facility:
Champion Coach has a state-of-the-art three bay service center designed to service up to three buses indoors simultaneously. Each service bay features Koni vehicle lifts or pit, fluid, air service and power. The facility features a full locker room with shower and parts inventory.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnosis and Repairs: Perform diagnostics on diesel engines and associated components to identify issues and implement necessary repairs. This includes troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and tire rotations to ensure the continued reliability of our motorcoaches.
Safety Inspections: Conduct safety inspections to ensure that all vehicles meet regulatory and safety standards. Address any safety concerns promptly.
Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including drivers and dispatchers, to coordinate maintenance schedules and respond to emergency repair requests.
Continuing Education: Stay up-to-date with advancements in diesel engine technology and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications:
Minimum of three years med/heavy truck, bus and/or motorcoach mechanic repair experience.
ASE Certification preferred, but not required
HVAC Certified preferred, but not required
Must have own tools
Technical School graduate or equivalent education, training and experience
Ideally have previous fleet experience and are familiar with diesel systems
Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment is required
Must be experienced with computerized diagnostics and fleet management software
Ability to use good judgment and decision making skills
Must pass DOT pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check
Valid applicable state license (CDL preferred but not required)
Company will consider recent graduate of technical school skilled in diesel engine repair to train.
