Overview
The Safety Specialist at Champion Coach will assist in ensuring the safe and compliant operation of the company’s motorcoach transportation services. This role supports the implementation and maintenance of safety and compliance standards in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, EPA, DHEC, and other relevant regulations. The Safety Specialist will handle daily compliance tasks, driver qualification documentation, safety inspections, and administrative duties to promote a culture of safety and reduce operational risks. Knowledge of motorcoach transportation industry practices and procedures is preferred, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment is essential.
The Safety Specialist reports Directly to the Director of Safety & Risk Management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Compliance Management: Monitor and manage daily compliance tasks, including Electronic Logging Device (ELD), Driver Qualification (DQ), and Hours of Service (HOS) compliance to ensure adherence to FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Driver Documentation and Screening: Assist with Driver Qualification files, send reminders for expiring documents, schedule DOT medicals and drug screenings, and screen/process new hire applications.
- Safety and Inspections: Conduct facility inspections, review fleet maintenance reports, and support accident/incident investigations with driver retraining.
- Telematics & Data Analysis: Analyze data identify trends and recommend policy changes to enhance safety.
- Training Support: Assist in managing new hire training and remedial training through Learning Management Systems.
- On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to assist with safety matters after hours.
- Additional Duties: Perform other job-related tasks. This position may not perform all duties listed, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, DHEC, and other relevant regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience in transportation, logistics, and/or a similar field.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing documentation and compliance tasks.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with drivers, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data entry, electronic signature platforms, compliance management systems and artificial intelligence platforms.
- Ability to adapt to a challenging, fast-paced environment and provide recommendations for operational improvements.
